Pininfarina Sverige AB, a Pininfarina-Volvo Car Corporation joint venture
In 2003 a new company was formed in the joint venture and the base was established in Uddevalla, Sweden. This new company, which was called "Pininfarina Sverige AB," is responsible for all operations at the Uddevalla plant, including project management, process engineering, prototyping and testing services.
Pininfarina is the majority owner with 60 percent and Volvo Car Corporation holds the remaining 40 percent. The top management structure is a combination of Pininfarina and Volvo executives.
The C70, a convertible with a unique three-piece retractable hardtop, is the first car developed and manufactured by Pininfarina Sverige AB. Starting from the styling defined by Volvo, Pininfarina dealt initially with the engineering. With a work force of more than 800 people, Pininfarina Sverige AB has been manufacturing the C70, starting from the first half of 2006, at the Uddevalla plant, which has a maximum manufacturing capacity of 20,000 cars per year.
A second company, RHTU, was established at the same Uddevalla plant for the production of retractable hard tops.
